APRIL: This month's goal will be to not use ANY disposable water bottles, juice bottles, coffee cups, etc! This means always having several of my traveler's mugs on hand (clean ones). I think this will be easy for coffee and water, but I'm a little nervous about bringing my big coffee cup to the smoothie place...
(Also a little nervous about actually having to keep my coffee mugs clean, as I enjoy letting the old dirty containers rot in my car).
Visit Sustainability Is Sexy for the facts on using reusable mugs for coffee.
Check out the impact bottled water has on our trash output.
Note: I think recycling is great, but how about not using the bottles at ALL considering the energy and petroleum that goes into making the bottles in the 1st place!
(2nd Note: I know this isn't exactly a groundbreaking idea and that alot of you do this already, but thought I would make a hard core committment to it this month. Try it and see what happens!)

This is a great idea and I'm already inspired; what we seem to collect are the plastic boxes that we get strawberries, almonds and etc in at the grocery. We could use plastic (I know) bags and reuse them. I'll give it some more thought. Meantime, rock on!

Awesome idea. I've given up plastic water bottles and am motivated to take my coffee mug in for coffee--actually, I may be giving up coffee altogether. I like your initiative and motivation. We'll try and follow in your footsteps.
ReplyDeleteWait, should I not be collecting plastic water bottles, steamrolling them with my F-900 HyperDiesel pickup, and fashioning them into eco-friendly clubs to use for beating endangered birds of prey? CRIPES!
ReplyDeleteActually, this is handy because I already don't use plastic water bottles: Aluminum all the way: the one you gave me! And coffee in a ceramic mug at home and steel mug for travel. Now I could just get out of the habit of pouring bleach and stove fuel out the window into the drainage field....
I'm really excited about this idea. I don't usually get coffee or bottled water, so this month I'm going to try to avoid plastic shopping bags. I think this blog is such a cool idea!
